Budgeting is better together. OurMoney is one Excel file for the two of you. Log what comes in and goes out, see where it goes, split shared costs fairly and save for the plans you make together.

What's inside

  • Dashboard: total income, expenses, net savings and savings rate, four charts, Budget vs Actual and your largest expenses. Filter by month, type, category, or by partner.
  • Transactions: one shared log. Pick who paid and whether it's shared, personal or covered for your partner.
  • Us: who paid what, each person's fair share, and who owes who for any month. There's also an all-time balance and a settle-up log.
  • Four ways to split: 50 / 50, by income, a custom percentage, or by what each of you can put in.
  • Goals: shared savings goals with progress bars, countdowns, an on-pace check, and what each of you puts in per month.
  • Bills: recurring bills and subscriptions, with what's due next, the monthly total and who pays.
  • Plan a Trip: price a trip line by line and see what to save per month, together and each.
  • Date Night Jar: your date-night budget, what's left this month, and ideas at $0, around $20 and around $50.
  • Start Here and Guide: a setup checklist that ticks itself off, plus step-by-step help for every tab.

Made to fit your life: 14 ready-made expense categories with editable monthly budgets. Rename, add or remove categories, and every dropdown and total follows.

What you need: Microsoft Excel 2016 or later, or Microsoft 365. It's a regular .xlsx file with no macros or add-ons.

How it works

  1. Log it

Add each income or expense as one row on the Transactions tab: date, type, category and amount. The month and net amount fill in by themselves.

  2. See it

The Dashboard updates instantly with your total income, expenses, net savings and savings rate. Filter by month, type, category or partner.

  3. Tune it

On the Setup tab, add your two names, pick how you split shared costs, and set your categories, monthly budgets, savings-rate goal and a large-expense alert. Every dropdown and chart follows along.
